Drama Grab Bag

Goodness, it has been quite a while since my last post! It’s not like don’t have any dramas to watch but rather I’ve had heck of a time trying to press ‘play’. It’s been a real struggle. Thus there hasn’t been much material to write about. Well, there are other factors too but I’m not going to go into that right now. Anyways, this post has been in the making for a loooong time and I’m SO glad I can finally publish something.^^

The Year End Drama Grab Bag

I really wasn’t planing on leaving this to the last day of the year, but as so often this year RL got in the way.

Looking back at Drama Year 2017, it feels like I didn’t watch that many things, but turns out I actually finished 21 kdramas, plus a couple of cdramas as well. Yeah, that was surprising. ๐Ÿ˜€ What is not surprising is that most of them didn’t make much of an impression, ha. I was reading through the list of this year’s kdramas and frequently going “oh wait, I did watch this one as well”. That said, there were couple of truly wonderful shows and some very good ones in the mix, as well as fiew nice surprises. Continue reading

Forest of Secrets – Final Thoughts

I’m hesitating to call Forest of Secrets a masterpiece, as what show is truly flawless, but FoS sure comes awfully close. I finally had the time to finish it and I’m still basking in this warm glow of having watched something truly good. If I was someone more atuned to critiquing TV shows, I’d probaly find things to nitpic… luckily I’m not. FoS is the best kdrama I’ve seen in years and very likely the best Korean crime show I’ve ever watched. My hat off to the whole team, who gave us something so grounded and well executed. Even though some of the actors may have featured more prominently, mostly due to their character’s placing in the story, FoS is truly a group effort. Everyone was pulling their weight, equally.

Forest of Secrets – up till ep 10

Da-yum, they are good! Not just Bae Do Na and Jo Seung Woo but all of them. The whole darned drama is crammed with pretty awesome actors. Well, stands to reason as many of them are movie actors and some have filmography as long as your arm. I’m loving what the writer and director are doing too. Then there are the characters. Interesting, intriguing, ambiguous and yet oddly realatable. I frequently forget that these people are made-up constructs, not real. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a Korean drama as good in every way as this one. Of course I haven’t watched every single kdrama there is, so I’m sure I must have missed a fiew. I’m sorry Signal, Tunel, Circle… et al, as good as you were, you ain’t on this level. ๐Ÿ™‚ Boggles the mind that FoS is the writer’s first drama and her resumรฉ is also very short. Continue reading

Drama Grab Bag

I’ve finally found some time to jot together a fiew thoughts on dramas I’ve been watching. It feels like it’s been ages since the last time I posted anything. Life is still uncommonly full with ‘stuff’ to do. Never expected that. To keep even somewhat on top of my dramas I’ve actually started to make notes, carrying a notebook with me and writing bits and pieces on my way to work, LOL! It seems to work though.
