I think all of my fave drama soundtracks of past few years have been from Chinese period dramas. What I love about them is how well they function as scene enhacers and mood makers without being agressively in your face. Another thing I love about them is the copious use of traditional instruments. I’ve grown quite enamoured especially with the bamboo flute. It’s a really good instrument for expressing various kinds of emontions, especially the sad and evocative ones. Continue reading
I can’t believe it’s August already! Time just seems to whizz by in a blink of an eye. Still short on time and frequently short on inspiration and energy, hence no posts for ages. I’ve watched a plethora of dramas in the past fiew months but nothing that’s truly grabbed me enough to feel like I must write about it. Gone are the days of squee filled reaction posts, sigh. I’m trying hard to remember if I finished any dramas since May but can’t seem to recall a thing. What the heck have I been watching then!?
Ok, let’s start with the two dramas I’m most invested in atm. Both are cdramas that just suddenly dropped without much fanfare and I really like both of them.
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. It’s just that whenever I plan to, I can never find the time till I’m more or less done with the dramas in question. 😀
With the end of God’s Quiz, Children of Nobody and Ever Night I found myself sort of dramaless. I tried this and that but nothing really struck a chord. Until I decided to pick up The Story of Minglan on a whim. I first watched all of the subbed episodes available at that point and then continued on as the epis got released. It’s now kind of a daily ritual to watch at least couple of the epis. 😀 Then just yeasterday I started Sandglass. I initially thought I’d watch a fiew episodes at a time but as it sometimes goes, I got throughly hooked. I also gave The Crowned Clown a go… but ended up dropping it. A well made drama with some great acting and the story isn’t too bad but it just didn’t stick. It took me longer and longer to get on with an episode and I finally had to admit defeat. A pity but can’t be helped. Them dramas keep on coming, so I guess… better luck next time? Besides, now that I’ve sampled one item on my List, I could always pick another one on it. There’s plenty of content where Sandglass came from. Continue reading
I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Ever Night may not be the best drama evah but it has very solid good points.
I didn’t fall in love just with the cinematography of Ever Night but also with the soundtrack. Combined they probably make about one third of my enjoyement of the drama. *g* I would really, really love to get a full album… I wonder if it’s available somewhere. Here is a collection of OST songs I was able to find floating around YT. Enjoy!
As people have probably noticed, I haven’t been doing a lot of posting this year. Mostly due to lack of time as I’ve been a lot busier with Real Life than I used to be. That’s not the only reason though. As time goes by I’m finding it much harder to find dramas to watch. I don’t think my taste has dramatically changed but rather I’ve become more and more picky and less forgiving for some of the flaws even decent dramas inevitably have. I’ve started and dopped SO many dramas this year and there are even more that didn’t interest me enough to even check them out.
I wouldn’t say it’s been a drama draught this year but it has been uncommonly hard sticking with anything. I pick up dramas but after a fiew episodes my inital interest starts to fade and finally I just drop them without much ado. There’s been SO many of these. Even dramas that should be right up my alley turn out to be duds and get discarded without so much as a backward glance. I’ve lamented before about my lack of drama time, so I’ve become even pickier than I already was. I have no time for dramas that fail to hook me within the first fiew episodes. I may have missed some good ones this way but not too many as I’m pretty good at spotting those that fit me. There are also couple of shows I’ve got queued to dramathon at some later date. Life being one of those. I love Forest of Secrets and even though medical dramas are not really my thing, I’m pretty sure TPTB have managed to make even this setting worth watching. 🙂
I don’t know what’s with me these days but I seem to be watching more fluff that usually. 😀 Could be the persistent heatwave that’s been going on since mid May. There are times I think my brain has finally melted, ha. Anyway, summer is sort of perfect time to watch something less demanding, regardless of the overall quality. Leave your brain at the door, your belief suspended above it and just enjoy. *g* Of course, the show in question has to appeal to you in some way, otherwise why bother? Continue reading
May 1st… how did that happen? Where did March and April go? Sigh, I have NO idea, months seem to whisk past at an alarming pace these days. UNB sort of took over my life and it feels like I haven’t watched anything but their videos lately, LOL! (can’t help it, they are so cute/funny and I love, love, love the songs!) But as I looked a bit harder I realised I’ve actually managed watch and even finish some dramas too, just not had any time to write about them. Continue reading
