It’s been a while since a Korean drama made me feel…ย well, much of anything. I’ve tried so many over the past few years but either dropped them then and there or just lost interest after couple of episodes. Even the ones I did finish didn’t eventally make all that big of an impression. The stories were ok but sort of forgettable.
It is a funny coincidence that I’ve been talking about Japanese dramas and their more relatable and soothing stories recently and then along comes I’ll Find You on a Beautiful Day, which oddly enough seems to have the same sort of overall feel. It wasn’t exactly ‘love at first sight’ but more like “Oh, what’s this familiar feeling? I like it!” Well, based on the first two episodes at least. What Drama reminds me of is one of my all time fave jdramas, Jasashii Jikan (Affectionate Time). Both dramas are set in a rural area during winter and feature broken relationships and people in need of healing. And there is coffee. ๐
This is a mood piece and the pace is rather slow. Some people will find it boring, others mendearing but I believe there are more than just me who liked it straight up. I liked the set up, the characters and the fact that it’s not in Seoul. I also like the OST which is instrumental (so far), except for the closing song ๊ฒจ์ธ์ด ๊พธ๋ ๊ฟ์ฒ๋ผ (Like a Winterโs Dream) by Kwak Jin Eon. It’s lovely. There is something very calming and warm with a tinge of wishtfulness and a drop of sadness flowing through these episodes. If Drama keeps this up all the way through without going into convoluted histronics or manufactured angst, this could be a winner.
The first two episodes introduce the main twosome and give us some glimpses into their lives and what their past connection is. We also get to meet few of the supporting characters, who seem a lot like what our heroine Hae Won needs right now. I’m also rather intrigued about Hae Won’s aunt and what’s up with her. Yes, I’m definitely looking forward to the next episodes. ๐
Ah, nice to hear that you find a k-drama you like, because it seems like a rare find these days regardless of the genre. ๐
Park Min-young knows how to pick her co-stars, that’s for sure.
Oh yes, she (or her management) has a talent for scouting co-stars. ๐ Good for her, I guess.
I was on the fence about this one…but I think now I’m gona give this a try for sure. Thanks for the first impressions! I’m actually surprised you liked this one (haven’t seen it but it didn’t seem like your cup of tea ๐)
Oh, I do like slice-of-life. I even watch romantic fluff… occasionally, though mostly with my finger firmly on the FF-button. ๐ Here’s to hoping this one stays on the course.
Haha…I thought this one was typical romantic melodrama..!
Nope, not quite the average romantic melo. At least so far it’s got a different vibe.
Sounds promising!! I’ve been having very good experiences with JTBC dramas of late, so I’m extra looking forward to this one now ๐ May Show continue to stay the course and be good, all the way to the end! ๐
The start was very promising indeed. We’ll see how it goes with the future episodes. Hopefull well. ๐
Yay! Glad this drama had a good start for you ๐ I’m a big fan of Park Min Young, so I’ll be giving it a try for her. I’ve heard others describe it like you, so I do worry I may be one who finds it too slow. Sometimes the overall atmosphere of a drama can win me over though, so I’ll just have to see how it goes. I hope you continue to enjoy it ๐
Yes, I was nice to have found a drama that I don’t feel more or less ‘meh’ about. I like both of the lead actors but that’s as far as it goes. ๐ My days of being a fan of anyone are long gone, heh. There are actors/actresses whose talent I admire and I do tend to check out their dramas, especially if I’ve liked their previous works. No guarantees I’ll stick to them though after the inital episodes. I’m pretty good at deciding if a drama suits me or not.
I kinda feel like this one may not be your thing, but you never know. Sometimes dramas can surprise you in a good way.
That they can! That’s why I do still check out some dramas that I don’t think are to my usual tastes because you just never know when one will surprise you ๐
